I am not the type of guy who likes to complain. I have always been a firm believer that complaining about something does not solve any problems. It is certainly okay to vent, but what has complaining ever accomplished for anyone? Nothing! 20 years ago, I had an accident. It was certainly not something I ever envisioned happening to me. Life was good! I just moved into a new house. I felt good about myself and what I accomplished as a pastor. The ministry was growing. I felt like I finally made it as a pastor. There was a spring in my step and things were looking good for yours truly. Then, on that fateful Monday evening it happened! My youngest son, who was 4 years old at the time decided he did not want to go to bed. I chased him down the hall. He could run very fast for a little guy. He ran through the kitchen then headed down the basement stairs. As I tried to catch up to him, as I ran down the stairs (thank God they were carpeted) I slipped and fell and landed on all fours. I had the wind knocked out of me. I banged my back on the stair and as a result I cracked a rib and had whiplash. I honestly should have gone to the hospital, but I guess I was in shock, and I just thought it was no big deal. All I can say is that when I woke up the next morning I was in agony. Being a typical hero, I decided to go to work the next day and let's just say that lasted all of 30 minutes. One of the secretaries told me to go home and take care of myself. I could barely walk home (I lived next to the church) and made an immediate appointment with my doctor. That was 2005. Since then, I have suffered with back pain. If I stand for a long period of time, I get back spasms. It is very challenging especially working a physical job. I could very easily complain but like I said, what will that prove. Instead, I have learned to thank God. I realize there are people in this world who have much worse pain that I do. There are people who have lost a leg or even some of our soldiers who have defended our country who have lost arms and legs. In the meantime, like I wrote in my previous blog, I believe it is God's way of telling me to slow down.
Let me conclude by saying I have tried several different options to relieve the pain. I have been to chiropractors, doctors, pain management, I have had 2 medial branch blocks, and I have had shots for the pain. I have used heating pads, and I have used ice. I was told I have a "slight" case of arthritis! Slight? Really? My last option is my best option. I believe one day soon God is going to heal me. And if it does not happen here on earth, I know when I get to heaven I will be pain free and able to worship him for eternity. In the meantime, Dave needs to remember he is not 21...he is 61! So, I continue to serve Him at church and continue serving the general public at Chick Fil-A. Lif goes on!
HAVE A BLESSED WEEK EVERYONE!!
